Growing to Meet the Needs of Our Community
Mackenzie Health is proud to serve one of Canada’s fastest growing communities. To meet the growing healthcare needs of the people of Richmond Hill, Vaughan and surrounding communities, and to realize our vision ‘to create a world-class health care experience’, we have designed an exciting new two-hospital model of care. The two-hospital model of care includes the continued enhancement of services at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital and the building of the future Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital.
Planning for the enhancement and expansion of services, including the building of the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital, began in 2009 and will continue until the completion of construction. With an official project approval provided by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care in 2011, the project has a government funding commitment of $58 million to complete the planning and tendering process.
Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital to Bring High Quality Jobs and New Business Opportunities to Vaughan
On May 9, 2014, Mackenzie Health shared a project update with members of the Vaughan business community. Included in that update were projections for construction jobs in the building of the hospital, as well as the expected healthcare employment and business opportunities in association with the completion of construction.
Currently, Mackenzie Health does business with over 150 companies in York Region, and the number is expected to grow with the opening of the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital. Based on the numbers of jobs created for similar sized hospital projects, Mackenzie Health expects that over 1,000 new construction jobs will be created in the building of the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital and that over 1,800 staff and 100 new physicians that will be required to provide care at Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital.
