A Night in Tuscany raises $1.22 million
Mackenzie Health Foundation’s 29th annual gala was a sensational celebration of exceptional health care and community generosity, raising $1.22 million for the Exceptional Care Belongs Here campaign for Mackenzie Health.
Presented by Rogers for the fifth year, and under the guidance of co-chairs Marisa Cosentino, Sandra DeMaria and Deanna Sgro-Natale, the gala took 1,100 guests on a Tuscan-themed adventure complete with wine tastings, entertainment and an exclusive preview of the Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital project.
The live auction was one for the record books, raising more than $200,000 toward a $2-million appeal for a new state-of-the-art CT scanner for Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital.
In a special presentation, campaign cabinet chair Greg Sorbara commemorated the community and corporate donors whose inspirational gifts are setting the pace for Canada’s largest community hospital campaign, including corporate leader Magna International and community builder Vic De Zen and his family for their transformative $10-million gifts.

Foundation launches $2M CT scanner appeal
Grateful patient Ron Draycott says his life would be very different if it wasn’t for the diagnosis and care he received at his community hospital in an emergency. After suffering a serious head injury on the golf course, Ron required an emergency CT scan to rule out a skull fracture.
A CT scanner is life-saving technology used by radiologists to detect, diagnose and monitor illnesses such as internal bleeding, cancer, stroke and heart disease. More than 27,000 scans are performed annually on children and adults at Mackenzie Health and one of the two machines, currently operating four years beyond its ideal lifespan, urgently needs to be replaced.
Mackenzie Health Foundation is seeking $2 million from the community to purchase and install a state-of-the-art 128-slice CT scanner at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital this year, so more patients like Ron will receive life-changing and life-saving care.
