Currently, Mackenzie Health does business with over 150 companies in York Region, and the number is expected to grow with the opening of the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital.
Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital is a significant economic opportunity for local suppliers and contractors.
Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Mackenzie Health awarded a fixed-price contract to Plenary Health to design, build, finance and maintain the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital. All contractual steps have been completed and construction began with a groundbreaking ceremony which took place on October 25, 2016. Based on the numbers of jobs created for similar sized hospital projects, Mackenzie Health expects that over 1,000 new construction jobs will be created in the building of the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital. At the peak of construction, Plenary Health estimates that more than 300 workers will be on site daily.
On May 9, 2014, Mackenzie Health shared a project update with members of the Vaughan business community. Included in that update were projections for construction jobs in the building of the hospital, as well as the expected healthcare employment and business opportunities in association with the completion of construction.
