Stepping Stones Mental Health Day Hospital
About Stepping Stones
Stepping Stones offers educational group treatment for adults whose daily life is being impacted by a mental illness. The goals of the treatment are to help you to improve your mood and day to day functioning through support, structure, and skill teaching.
You can attend Stepping Stones for up to six weeks. Morning classes focus on the following themes: effective communication, improving self-esteem, making changes, managing our anxiety, learning about cognitive behavior therapy, and planning for discharge. In the afternoon, we offer elective workshops that are designed for more tailored teaching. Most of the groups use a classroom approach and interaction is encouraged.

To refer patients:
Please fax a referral to the above fax number.
Our treatment team has a variety of friendly and caring mental health professionals, including representatives from psychiatry, nursing, social work, occupational therapy, and recreational therapy. A doctor’s referral is required and referrals can be faxed to (905) 883-2139.
While most of the treatment is done in a group setting, time is set aside to meet individually. While in the program, you will meet with one of our psychiatrists. You will also have a primary staff member to help orient you to the program, develop goals, support your progress, and help you in determining the next steps in your recovery.
There is a $10 cost for program materials including a binder and introductory information. To encourage activation, each week you and the other group members choose a low cost social event to take part in.
The Stepping Stones Program is located on the 3rd floor of “B-Wing” at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital (the floor just above Tim Horton’s). A reduced parking rate is available. Please see the receptionist for details.
