What is the Stroke Prevention Clinic?

Mackenzie Health's Stroke Prevention Clinic is for people who have had signs and symptoms of a stroke that if untreated can lead to a stroke. This information will help to answer questions about your visit to the clinic.

An appointment with the Clinic:

The Clinic will attempt to contact you with the date and time of your appointment within 1-3 business days following your visit to the emergency department or Family Doctor. If you do not hear from the Stroke Prevention Clinic within 1-3 business days, or you miss our call, please call the clinic at: (905) 883-1212 x7721 from Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm

The Clinic will attempt to contact patients with the date and time of their appointment within 1-3 business days.


Where is the Clinic?

The Stroke Prevention Clinic is located at the hospital on the main level (level 2) of B-Wing (near Tim Hortons).


At the Clinic you will:

  • Have appropriate tests
  • Meet with a Nurse Practitioner to discuss your risk factors
  • Meet with a Doctor who is a specialist in stroke care
  • Receive treatment, as needed
  • Be referred to other specialists, if necessary
  • Be booked to attend an education class about lowering your risk of stroke
  • Be linked with other health care services, as needed


To prepare for your appointment, please:

  • Bring your health card
  • Bring your medication in their containers, including vitamins/minerals and herbal supplements
  • Take all of your regular medications on the day of your appointment
  • Bring a list of your past surgeries, accidents or health problems
  • Bring a list of questions you have
  • Bring a snack or small meal with you, if you have been asked to do blood work
  • Feel free to bring a spouse, family member or friend with you
  • Bring an interpreter with you if needed
