In May, after an evaluation of the most commonly used intravenous medications (I.V.) at the hospital, Pharmacy Services implemented a Centralized Intravenous Admixture (CIVA) program in all inpatient areas. This has enhanced safety and the quality of medication management at Mackenzie Health by eliminating variations in I.V. medication preparation practices and limiting manipulation and preparation of medication to a central sterile environment in the pharmacy.
