Our programs and initiatives are strategically planned to help us achieve our vision of Creating a World Class World Experience’ for our patients and communities. In this issue of the President’s Report, we share programs being implemented in our clinical departments and units to achieve this vision. These initiatives are guided by principles of teamwork, accountability and safety and our focus on patient-centred care.
In May, we celebrated patients at our first Celebrating Patients Day event by sharing patient stories of resilience and triumph at an evening event with Dale Curd, host of the CBC show, Hello Goodbye (page 5). Our Aftercare Clinic team in their work with mental health patients (page 9) demonstrated our values of empathy, excellence and leadership by listening to their patients using a focus group and implementing changes with the patient in mind. Our Emergency and Woman and Child teams are implementing user-friendly patient surveys (page 7) to get feedback from patients immediately following their discharge. And this year, we marked the first anniversary of the Urgent Care Centre in Vaughan where we cared for approximately 14, 000 patients of all ages with an average wait-time of 30 minutes from start to finish (page 3).
The hospital is also embarking on an advanced clinical transformation to become Canada’s first Smart Hospital, with plans for the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital well underway, and through our work with Epic Systems Inc. to develop a new electronic medical record (EMR) system by July 2017. The EMR will integrate most software applications in use at the hospital and innovate the way our staff and clinicians provide care. Transformation is also being undertaken through our initiative to go Back to Basics (page 3) in all clinical areas to bring staff back to the fundamentals and continued focus on best practices.
Recently we centred our efforts on revising and extending our strategic plan through to 2020 with new refreshed goals (page 2). As we stride purposefully towards our goals, we invite you to join us on this journey. We welcome your questions, feedback and input on all our programs and initiatives.
