Founding Member of the Volunteer Association
In August 2016, Mackenzie Health lost a legend among its volunteers. Ruth Coxford; a founding member of The Volunteer Association who volunteered in the hospital for 54 years. She spent the last twenty years volunteering in both the Palliative Care Unit and the Chemotherapy Clinic. Among her many roles, Ruth was President of the Volunteer Association from 1980-1981.
Ruth felt strongly that Mackenzie Health was her home away from home, and in 2006 the Ruth and Stewart Coxford and Family Chemotherapy Clinic was named in her family’s honour.
Her overwhelming kindness, unfailing good humour and first-hand knowledge of the fears and concerns of cancer patients made her a pleasure to work alongside. Her generosity, passion, and commitment to the hospital she served and the community she loved, are an inspiration to everyone whose lives she touched.
