A collaborative effort between Diabetes Education and Pharmacy led to a successful transition from syringes and needles to insulin pens on November 29, 2016.
The project involved numerous individuals and departments across the hospital, including endocrinologists, Professional Practice and Support Services, as well as industry partners. This change aligns with diabetes best practices in the community. Using insulin pens will help to facilitate discharge, enhance patient and staff safety, increase patient comfort and improve blood sugars. All of these benefits will lead to improved well-being while in hospital and contribute to a shorter length of stay.
