Introducing Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital
Nearly one year ago, we shared news of the largest single donation in Mackenzie Health’s history with the Cortellucci family’s $40 million donation to build and equip our new hospital in Vaughan. Today, we’re thrilled to recognize this historic contribution by naming the hospital in their honour. Introducing…Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital!
Cortellucci family; Premier Doug Ford; Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health; Michael Tibollo, MPP for Vaughan-Woodbridge and Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addictions; Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua; Altaf Stationwala, President and CEO of Mackenzie Health; Mark Falbo, Chair of the Board of Directors, Mackenzie Health; Krista Finlay, President and CEO of Mackenzie Health Foundation; and Rina Pillitteri, Chair of the Board of Directors, Mackenzie Health Foundation.
Earlier today, Mackenzie Health leadership and the Cortellucci family unveiled the official new name of the Vaughan hospital alongside local and provincial government representatives. When it opens in early 2021, Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital will be the first smart hospital in Canada and will add needed capacity to the health care system while doubling access to care for residents in the communities we serve across southwest York Region. Once complete, Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital will increase Mackenzie Health’s urgent and emergent care capacity, provide more advanced diagnostic imaging and enhanced programs in obstetrics, pediatrics and mental health.
The Cortellucci family believes so strongly in the Mackenzie Health team and in ensuring the very best care for our community.
“Today’s announcement marks a historic moment in Mackenzie Health’s history and an unprecedented investment in our community,” said Mackenzie Health President and CEO, Altaf Stationwala. “Never before has there been a more important time to ensure we have the ability to safeguard the health and well-being of our communities and provide the ultimate in health care to the residents of southwest York Region and beyond. The Cortellucci family has demonstrated an incredible commitment to shaping the health care of the future and we’re so proud to honour them in this way.”
More than five years ago, Mackenzie Health Foundation undertook the largest community hospital campaign in Canadian history to raise $250 million to build and equip our new Vaughan hospital and enhance care at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital. More than $177 million has been raised to date, and the Cortellucci family hopes that this announcement will inspire others to help us reach our goal.
A new sign is unveiled at Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital
Cortellucci family embodies the giving spirit
The Cortellucci family has a history of supporting worthy causes in York Region and has been a long-standing supporter of Mackenzie Health. In fact, the Emergency Department at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital is named in honour of a $2 million donation Nick and Rosanne Cortellucci made in 2006. They feel so strongly about the need for a new hospital in Vaughan that they were willing to put their well-respected name behind it.
The Cortellucci family recorded a special message to tell you in their own words why it was so important for them to contribute to make the Vaughan hospital a reality. Take a look at the video below.
We’re so grateful to the Cortellucci family for their contributions to health care and hope that their generosity continues to be an inspiration for our community for many years to come.
