Mackenzie Health has been named one of the 2018 College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) Healthcare’s Most Wired award recipients. Mackenzie Health is the only Canadian recipient in 2018. This achievement recognizes Mackenzie Health for its leadership and innovation in introducing health care information technology (IT) systems to best support high quality care for patients and families.
A few highlights from the Mackenzie Health ‘Most Wired’ survey results:
- Improved patient safety and prevention of errors through technology-enabled bedside product administration (greater than or equal to 95 per cent barcode medication administration, breast milk scanning and blood scanning).
- Integrated information on patient status, orders pending, critical lab results and room availability through enterprise-wide electronic patient-logistics management system.
- Reduced registration time by more than 12 minutes at self-serve patient kiosks, which also prevents duplication of information entry and contributes to an improved patient experience.
- Connected patients to their medical history and upcoming appointments through Mackenzie Health MyChart, electronic medical record. More than 23,445 patients have signed up since launching in 2017.
“It’s truly an honour to receive this incredible recognition for implementing electronic health solutions that help enhance care delivery and the patient experience,” says Diane Salois-Swallow, Chief Information Officer, Mackenzie Health. “As we look towards a ‘smart’ hospital future at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital and the future Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital, we’re inspired by the potential these technologies will have.”
Recently, Mackenzie Health became the first Canadian acute care hospital with an emergency department and intensive care unit to receive Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM) Stage 7 certification. This designation signifies that Mackenzie Health has fully-implemented a paperless environment through electronic medical records (EMR) and digital health solutions.
