Vaughan, ON (March 2, 2020) – Today, Mackenzie Health Foundation is excited to announce a $5-million joint gift from Promenade Shopping Centre partners Liberty Development Corporation and the Serruya family to help build and equip the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital. This transformational gift will be recognized by naming the hospital’s internal Main Street, which will be the main corridor for patients and visitors to travel across the hospital.
“The Liberty Development Corporation and Serruya Family gift helps further Mackenzie Health’s commitment to creating positive patient experiences, right from the moment patients enter our doors. The Main Street will be a central space for patients, staff and visitors and will be bright, inviting and fully accessible. We’re grateful for the support and look forward to a continued relationship,” says Altaf Stationwala, President and CEO, Mackenzie Health.
As a supporter of Mackenzie Health for more than 18 years, Liberty Development Corporation continues to generously contribute to the Ultimate campaign. Through the leadership of Fred Darvish, Latif Fazel and Brendan Murphy, this gift represents an ongoing, impactful philanthropic relationship.
“On behalf of our partners and team at Liberty Development Corporation, we’re proud to support the Ultimate campaign and Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital, and this is just the beginning,” says Fred Darvish, President, Liberty Development Corporation. “We look forward to growing our commitment and continuing our philanthropic journey with Mackenzie Health.”
Mackenzie Health Foundation is pleased to welcome the Serruya family as first-time donors. As longstanding and respected community health advocates, the Serruya family are committed to doing their part to give back to their community.
“Supporting the health and wellness of our community has always been important to all of us,” says Michael Serruya. “We are thrilled to be part of bringing the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital to York Region.”
When the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital opens its doors, patients and visitors will travel through the 444 square-foot-long internal Main Street to access many areas of the hospital – including the main elevator bank, Patient Registration, Magna Emergency Department, Medical Imaging, the Vic de Zen Family Welcome Centre, Spiritual Care Centre, and a variety of public spaces including dining and retail.
“This generous gift towards Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital helps bring the ultimate health care experience to our community. We are grateful to the leadership of Liberty Development Corporation and the Serruya family, as we continue to build upon our community’s inspiration and generosity and ensure the success of the Ultimate campaign,” says Krista Finlay, President, Mackenzie Health Foundation.
Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital will be Canada’s first smart hospital, featuring devices and information systems that communicate with each other to anticipate the needs of patients and health care providers. The 1.2 million sq. ft. hospital will provide 350 patient beds with the ability to increase capacity to 550 beds. As the first net new hospital in York Region in more than 30 years, it will join Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital, alongside Mackenzie Health’s community-based locations, in providing increased access to state-of-the-art health care to residents.
“The generosity of donors is helping to make the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital a reality,” says the Honourable Maurizio Bevilacqua, Mayor of the City of Vaughan and Chair of the Ultimate campaign. “When it opens, the hospital will be a beacon for our community and will embody the giving spirit of organizations like the Liberty Development Corporation and families like the Serruya family.”
