The highest standards in patient safety
When you come to a hospital, you expect it to be clean and you expect great quality care. The Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) department plays a key role in making sure this is always the case. It’s responsible for maintaining the highest standard in patient safety by providing clean and sterile medical and surgical supplies and equipment to patient care areas all over the hospital.
Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) involves a series of steps to disinfect and sterilize all surgical and medical tools. The MDR team also inspects and assembles each item to ensure it’s safe before sterilizing all of the instruments for use in medical procedures.
The MDR department at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital sterilizes close to 5,000 items a day. With the opening of Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital, the team will be even busier. Construction of the MDR department at Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital is nearing completion with floors, doors, hardware, lighting and all equipment being installed.
Here’s an inside look at the important work of our MDR team.
Starbucks and other food retailers are on the way!
Construction of the food court at Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital is underway
We all know that it’s often difficult to predict how much time you’ll be spending in a hospital when you or your loved ones are receiving treatment; that’s when having food options available to you becomes important.
When the doors of our second hospital open, patients and visitors will have a variety of different options to choose from to get their coffee, snacks and meals at Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital.
In addition to a full-service Starbucks that will be located on level 1, there will also be a food court on level 0 featuring a full-service Tim Horton’s, Subway, OBC Grille offering grilled cuisine and Global Adventures featuring an array of international dishes.
Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital will also feature Fooda, a dynamic on-site pop up restaurant, that will use technology to bring your favourite local restaurants to you.
Rallying together for our tiniest patients
On October 6, hundreds of Ferrari enthusiasts gathered at Arlington Estate for the 15th Annual Ferrari of Ontario Rally in support of Mackenzie Health and SickKids Foundations. Drivers journeyed over the rolling hills of the region for the rally of a lifetime, raising $400,000 for young patients and their families. We’re so grateful to R. Ferri Automotive for their commitment to bringing the ultimate in health care to Mackenzie Health.
The incredible support of new and long-time donors is bringing our two-hospital model closer to completion. To date, more than 5,400 donors have raised $169 million toward our $250-million campaign goal. Challenge your family, friends, colleagues and neighbours to claim a top spot on our Ultimate leaderboard. Engage in some healthy donor competition by making your donation at www.theultimatesuitsyou.ca.
