Wellness Strategy

At Mackenzie Health, we recognize and believe that a happy and healthy team is a valuable asset and a critical resource to our organizational success.

Happier and healthier staff members translate into better patient care at the hospital, benefitting the community at large.

With programs and events designed to help staff enhance their professional skills, manage stress, make healthier choices and create a better work-life balance, Mackenzie Health staff, physicians and volunteers are supported in their journey to a happier and healthier self. Along with established programs like the Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP), the Kudos Awards and services provided by Spiritual Care, Mackenzie Health offers a variety of unique opportunities, activities, workshops and events to help staff on their journey to wellness.

Pursuit of Wellness

Welcome to the Pursuit of Wellness, an initiative for staff, physicians and volunteers at Mackenzie Health. As an organization committed to continued improvement, we encourage staff to discover the tools, information and support available so they can set out on their journey to wellness.

The Wellness Program provides opportunities to enhance wellness in all aspects of life, with each one having a positive impact on work satisfaction, friendships and self-worth, including professional wellness, emotional wellness, physical wellness, social wellness and spiritual wellness.

Professional Wellness

Staff spend a lot of time at work, so it's important that they feel valued and find satisfaction with their work at Mackenzie Health. With our Kudos Program, we aim to recognize staff members who go above and beyond to create the best possible experience for patients, co-workers and other members of the community. Career opportunities are posted for staff and consultation with Human Resources is available to those looking for new opportunities. We offer workshops through our EFAP Provider, Homewood Health to provide tips and guidance on career development and personal growth.

Emotional Wellness

Taking care of emotional needs can be challenging, but it's important to learn to recognize and express emotions. Doing so can help boost confidence, manage stress and improve resiliency. With workshops on mindfulness, meditation, stress management and relaxation techniques, staff are well-prepared to look after their internal selves.

Physical Wellness

Looking after one’s physical health has enormous benefits for overall health, mood, stress levels and productivity. Simple actions like walking, taking the stairs or getting up from a desk to stretch for a moment can help with weight loss, energy levels and even help prevent injury. Staff have access to the Wellness Centre, a beautiful and spacious fitness facility which also hosts group fitness classes including yoga, Pilates and Zumba.

Social Wellness

Being part of the Mackenzie Health community provides an outlet for staff to socialize with their co-workers on a more personal level and participate in fun activities. With BBQs, ice cream trucks and an annual Wellness Fair, there is something for everyone.

Spiritual Wellness

Our Spiritual Care team organizes many programs to support the spiritual wellness of our staff. We hold events to celebrate significant religious holidays which often include guest speakers, opportunities for worship and sampling of food. These events create an inclusive environment for everyone and allow staff members to discover and explore spiritual opportunities and exemplify their values. Staff also have access to spiritual care and psychotherapy support.

Spiritual care support: Spiritual care support is designed to provide guidance, comfort and a listening ear for those who seek support through their faith or spiritual beliefs. Our dedicated spiritual care providers assist in finding strength, solace and meaning during distress.

Psychotherapy support: Psychotherapy is a powerful tool for addressing many emotional and mental health concerns. Our qualified psychotherapists are available to provide confidential counselling services to assist in navigating life's challenges, managing stress and improving overall well-being.

Reaching out for support is a sign of strength, and we encourage staff to take advantage of these resources.
